Community Feast

Published:

While we may not be having our Christmas parties, mulled wine or mince pies, members of the Aldgate community are still enjoying some festive fare this evening! We’re delighted to be facilitating the Aldgate Community Feast, funded by Howden Group.

Despite 9 months of harsh trading conditions, 2 lockdowns and the recent Tier 3 restrictions, the restaurants at the south end of Middlesex St, Aldgate, have joined together to prepare their own individual signature dishes, culminating in a community feast. This feast is a wonderful act of community kindness, giving struggling families the opportunity to enjoy a special, festive meal together. Pupils and families from neighbouring schools have been invited to take part in this celebration, spreading some festive cheer and a delicious meal to people in our community who may not otherwise have had the opportunity.

Each family taking part will be able to take away their meal and eat it at home: while we can’t all be together, it’s comforting to think that each of us will be taking part in this community feast in our own homes tonight, the shared experience bringing us together while we’re apart.

Celebrated for providing world class international cuisine in Aldgate, the restaurants (Mumbai Square, Barcelona Tapas, 1947 Indian Pizza & Bar and Sfoglia Bologna) are all taking part in this local pay it forward scheme. We hope that the delights of the restaurant dishes will inspire culinary interest that goes beyond tonight’s enjoyment.

As part of the wider Aldgate in Winter community activity, this is in collaboration with Shapla School and Harry Gosling School and with very kind donation by the Howden Group.

Bon appetite everyone!
